Do you think Polygamy is acceptable if it involves two or more consenting adults not young girls?
It depends. I grew up in a polygamist group where they didn't allow girls younger than 18 to get married. (No, I wasn't part of this group that's all over the news.) I think if someone is going to enter into that kind of arrangement, they have to come to that conclusion THEMSELVES, without the persuasion of anyone else. Too often in the group I was a member of, I saw people (men and women) get married "plurally" because their parents and friends encouraged them to. It is all they know and to them it just makes sense. Unfortunately, in cases like that, you will find that those men and women come to regret those decisions later, but by then a lot of them feel trapped. They aren't trapped in the sense that their every move is watched and they will be punished if they try to leave. They are trapped in the sense that they are married and they don't feel like they can just walk away. This group in the news is the extreme. They live in a very closed community and most of the other polygamist groups are not like that. I went to a public high school and I dressed and acted like everyone else. I am not part of that group anymore, but to this day, many of my friends that I grew up with do not know my history.
