If Number divided by total = percent, then...?

then if i have a number, lets say 16,000, and a percent, 61%, then how do i find the number of that. I haven't used this method for a long long time, but I have a vague memory of dividing?hrmm...Quick answer please? oh, and by number, i mean the numerator. The numerator above the total. the total is the denominator in msot cases in this problem. for example, 512 is the total electoral votes, and 349 is the number of votes obama got.
